After an eventful end to the triple-header in Silverstone, where Franco had a double top-five finish and Dennis scored points in both races, the F2 team travelled to the Hungaroring in Budapest for the Hungarian GP. It is a track with some memorable moments made in the past, and eager to make more!
PRACTICE AND QUALIFYING
It was set to be a very warm weekend in Budapest, which meant tyre management was important. Dennis set the fifth-fastest time on the grid and looked fast during the Practice session. Franco wasn’t far behind in P8 and was looking to improve in the afternoon. A few hours later Qualifying was upon us. Times were getting faster and faster as the track was heating up as usual. Both Dennis and Franco weren’t able to beat their positions from Practice: P6 and P12 consecutively.
SPRINT RACE
Saturday’s Sprint Race was set to be different than usual. Where most drivers are always on the same strategy, multiple drivers gambled on starting and finishing the race on the soft tyres. Dennis was one of them, while Franco went for the main strategy on hard tyres. Both Dennis and Franco overtook driver after driver. After some heavy battling and important tyre management, Dennis ended at P5, which resulted in five important points in the Championship. Franco was right behind him at P6, having made up six positions compared to his starting one on the grid, 4 points to add up to his tally in the standings.
FEATURE RACE
The start of the race on Sunday went well. Dennis held his position and stayed in P6, Franco overtook two drivers and was in P10. The Safety Car in lap 7 caused the usage of the mandatory pit-stop, with Dennis changing to the hard tyre and Franco to the soft. By the end of the race the degradation on Franco his tyres was big due to an extra sudden safety car, which made him drop to P13. Dennis maintained his pace and ended in the same place he started in; P6. A total of seventeen points gathered throughout the weekend solidifies our position in the standings and gives us a good premise to fight for the Constructor’s title. Next week will take us much closer to home, where we’ll compete during the Belgian GP in the tenth round of the season.
Standing safter the Hungarian GP:
P5 Franco – 96 points
P8 Dennis – 79 points
Team standings: P3 – 175 points
